Total tally for the last 7 days was 1747 peacock bass for this fishery.

Total fish caught the last 2 ½ days (Sun- ½ Tue) increased 38% on an angler basis more than the previous week. A total of 1366 peacock bass were landed of which 183, over 08 lbs. by 25 anglers. We have seen almost no rain in the last days and water levels are reaching their optimum level at our private fisheries in the North East. Improving fishing results show this fact (assuming similar fishing skills for all our guests).

We are closely monitoring the forecasts in 2 different sources for the impact of El Niño and La Niña Southern Oscillation potential impact on our private fisheries. Experts agree that there is a high probability of a neutral effect on the area, if anything, we might experience a mild decrease in the rain levels for these months to come. Excellent news for coming anglers!!!

Fishing Report - August 11-25,...

Tropic Star Panama

Fishing Report - August 11-25, 2012

By Albert Battoo, Dock Master

As expected, the fishing over the last two weeks has been nothing short of spectacular. There’s plenty of Black Marlin and Blue Marlin out on the 100 fathom drop and we all know why they are here. Simply put, there’s so much bait offshore that on some days you can cruise for hours and not come out of the bonito and skipjack schools. Porpoise and GIANT humpback whales are keeping our guests busy taking photos while waiting for the rod to scream and the Tuna Frenzies have been incredible. It’s nothing to catch a boat load in no time at all; mostly in the 60-100 lb range but the big ones are also here and we are getting a few up to 170 lbs. Black Marlin are not usually abundant this time of year but we are catching many in the 500 lb range. You’d also be amazed to see some of the humungous Dorado we are catching offshore, fish up to 65 lbs are not unusual. Inshore is still firing up as well. There’s a few Cubera Snapper and some big Almaco Jacks spread out along the coast.

We had the pleasure of hosting Mark Davis of Big Water Adventures over the last week and they had an incredible time. On the first day out they caught a Blue Marlin, 2 Sails and filmed what was perhaps one of the best Tuna feeding frenzies ever recorded at out lodge. The show will be airing in January 2013 on the Outdoor Network, so stay tuned. Lucky angler Tim Zellers released his first Black Marlin estimated at 500 lbs and also completed his Royal Billfish Slam. Rhett Lasserre, Tom Houchin and Ron Slivka both released their first Black Marlin that was estimated at 500+ lbs. Tom also released a Monster Pacific Sailfish that was around 150 lbs. John Himsel released his first Black Marlin estimated at 450 lbs. Tyler Visone, John Esposito, Les Retter and Mark Rohr also got their first Black Marlin in the 400 lb range. Mike Nix, Matt Adams and Jorge Ferreiro both released their first Pacific Blue Marlin estimated at 400 lbs. Junior angler William Esposito released his first Pacific Sailfish, in the 100 lb range.

Dave Isbell and Seal Reilly released a huge Pacific Blue Marlin, his first one, in the 500 lb range. Doug Veldhuizen, Mark Rohr, Florentino Gago, Maximo Pfefferkorn Bill Sturm and Luke Kissam reeled in their first Pacific Blue Marlin estimated at 400 lbs. Ty McMains released his first Pacific Blue Marlin, 350 lbs. Dan Bradley and his wife Robin Van Haven both released their first Pacific Blue Marlin. The both fish were estimated at 400 lbs and 300 lbs respectively and Kyle MeKellar released his first Pacific Blue Marlin around 300 lbs and Pacific Sailfish, 80 lbs.
